Venue Gallery: The Guard's Museum
Description:
Situated at the heart of Royal London, The Guards Museum in Birdcage Walk is a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace and right on the edge of the beautiful St James’s Park. The museum tells the story of the five regiments of Foot Guards who guard the Sovereign and the royal residences, namely the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards. From their creation in the 17th Century through to modern times, the Guards have achieved and maintained a reputation for excellence in all things which the museum reflects in the superb displays and artefacts. The sumptuous colours and glittering regimental silver all contribute to make a wonderful backdrop for any kind of event. Since it was opened in 1988 it has hosted events attended by almost every member of the Royal Family as well as a variety of other celebrities. Being part of Wellington Barracks it enjoys first class security but still maintains a very relaxed atmosphere. The collection currently boasts one of the largest collections of genuine Victoria Crosses in the world which are on permanent display. Wellington Barracks is the start and finish point for the world famous ceremony of Changing the Guard, as the Guards form up and march from the barracks to Buckingham Palace Forecourt at 11.28am each day in summer and every other day in winter – an age-old ceremony that still delights over 2 million people each year. This hidden gem is well worth visiting if you are looking for a very different venue.
