Description:

Portland Castle was originally built to defend Weymouth against a possible French and Spanish invasion. Since then it has survived largely unaltered and the result is an ideal environment to enjoy the extraordinary view of the harbor. Designed by Christopher Bradley-Hole, the new Governor’s Garden is part of the contemporary Heritage Garden series. Made from local Portland stone, its heart is a circular amphitheatre with seating for 200 people based on two levels. The enclosed space creates an intimate atmosphere blessed with an abundance of natural light from the tall ornamental blocks. In addition, 12 new Corsican pine trees have been planted to supplement the existing create and to create a backdrop for the garden.
